About The "Next" 9th

LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 9

Los Angeles City Council District 9 is a vibrant constellation of historic neighborhoods, cultural hubs, and working-class communities that form the heart of South Los Angeles and portions of Downtown L.A. District 9 is powered by resilient residents, small business owners, families, artists, educators, and community leaders who bring strength, creativity, and pride to the district.

The district encompasses neighborhoods including but not limited to Historic South Central, Exposition Park, University Park, Vermont Square, Florence-Firestone, South Park, and surrounding areas of South Los Angeles and Downtown Los Angeles. These communities reflect deep cultural roots, rich history, and a shared commitment to progress, equity, and opportunity. My commitment is to make District 9 is a place where community voice matters, where diversity is celebrated, and where residents will have safe streets, affordable housing, economic opportunity, and thriving neighborhoods for generations to come.

My Commitment

District 9 is rich in culture, strength, and resilience — but for far too long, our community has been underserved and overlooked. I’m running for Los Angeles City Council because I believe every resident deserves safety, dignity, opportunity, and a representative who understands their journey.

I’ve lived the challenges that many in our district face today, and I’ve overcome them.  I’m committed to building District 9 where everyone has the chance to thrive.

This Campaign Is About Us — All of Us

District 9 deserves a representative who understands the struggle, who has walked the walk, and who will fight every day to ensure that residents’ voices are heard and a solution is gained.

I’m ready to lead with resilience, compassion, and the determination to build a stronger, safer, more desirable and more unified District 9.

BIO

Born and raised in Los Angeles, with strong family values and rooted in spirituality, I am committed to serving the residents of District 9 with compassion, dignity and a hands-on approach because it’s the community’s voice that matters. I am a proud mother and grandmother. For 19 years, I’ve lived free from the hardships that once held me back — including but not limited to homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, and substance use disorder.

My path forward began with education. Starting at Los Angeles Southwest College with only nine units, I worked my way to an AA in Liberal Studies, an AS in Psychology, and obtained my certification for chemical dependency counseling. I received my Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, and  a Master’s in social work at California State University of Dominguez Hills. Today, I serve individuals experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, and substance use disorder by addressing their needs with compassion, expertise, and deep cultural understanding. Understanding human behavior is a catalyst for getting results for the residents in the “Next” District 9.

I serve on the Executive Board of a prestigious organization and is actively involved in the community of Carson. Since doing so, I have witnessed incredible things that’s being done that I would like to bring to District 9 that will change the trajectory of the way things are now and where the Next 9this going.

I enjoy spending time with friends and family, having game-night, riding my motorcycle, going on cruises, and traveling.

Since 2007, District 9 has been my home. As a homeowner and community member I am deeply invested in what the future holds for District 9.  I witness changes that need to be made in our district daily. I drive down dark streets, I’ve had to detour because of yellow tape, I see the trash on the curbs for weeks, encampments with people openly using drugs, unhoused elderly people, and have been held up in traffic due to the street takeovers. This is where CHANGE is needed.  I am not a career politician- I am an advocate for people, and I specialize in getting RESULTS.

My Priorities

► Affordable Housing & Homelessness Solutions

Champion policies that increase access to safe, stable, and affordable housing for all residents—protecting renters and owners by expanding affordable units, and addressing homelessness through sustainable solutions with dignity and long-term strategies through community partnership.

► Increase Employment & Economic Opportunities

Create more job opportunities by supporting small businesses, attracting new industries, investing in workforce development, and ensuring residents have pathways to upward mobility.

► Public Safety Through Community Partnership

Promote community-centered public safety through prevention programs, improved lighting and infrastructure, and installing camaras. Through strategic partnerships, and increased trust between residents and public safety agencies we can have safter communities.

► Thoughtful Compassionate Immigration Support

Advocate for resources and policies that protect immigrant families, connect them to services, and celebrate the cultural richness they bring to our district.

► Clean & Beautiful Neighborhoods

Improve cleanliness by enforcing sanitation standards, reducing encampments, increasing waste management support, and collaborating with residents and businesses to maintain healthy, vibrant neighborhoods that reflect the beauty, creativity, and spirit of the 9th District.

► Expanded Community Programs

Increase essential programs for youth, seniors, LGBTQ-I, Reentry, and individuals facing life challenges and activities that will engage, encourage and empower youth to excel —focusing on growing mental health services, mentorship opportunities, educational programs, re-entry, financial empowerment, and community healing to support and empower the intersections of community members identities.

► Cultural Unity & Community Pride Focusing on the needs of communities

Foster unity through events, art spaces, dialogue, and cross-cultural programs that honor the district’s diversity, beauty and spirit, and build a stronger more connected community.

I support March for Babies because infant mortality remains significantly higher in minority communities. African American infants are twice as likely to die as white infants. This disparity is unacceptable, and it strengthens my resolve to advocate for equity in maternal and infant health.

A woman giving food for homeless

My compassion and sense of responsibility to my community. Providing food, clothing, and even full Thanksgiving meals.  This is an expression of solidarity and dignity, I see these people as neighbors rather than strangers.

A woman giving food for a poor person

The gratitude this woman shows is astonishing. Every time I encounter her, she talks and laughs with me as if she doesn’t want the moment to end. Despite her circumstances, she offers warmth, joy, and presence so freely. It reminds me that sometimes what people need most isn’t just food or clothing, but to be seen, heard, and treated with genuine care.

strong family values are what keep me going. I am deeply grateful

My strong family values are what keep me going. I am deeply grateful to still have a living parent, a blessing I never take for granted. My grandchildren are my heart and soul, and I am immensely proud of my three children. They are my greatest joy, my motivation, and my legacy.

Lobby days at the Capitol reaffirms my commitment

Lobby days at the Capitol reaffirms my commitment to social work. Advocating for individuals, communities, and policies is not just what we do—it’s who we are. Social justice is not optional; it’s a lifelong responsibility. I will always fight for it.

One of my self-care practices is riding my motorcycle

One of my self-care practices is riding my motorcycle—but it becomes a true passion when I ride for a purpose. Riding for a Cure during Breast Cancer Awareness Month was especially fulfilling, combining healing, community, and advocacy in a way that nourishes my spirit.
